OUR MISSION
Mazing magazine is vision put into practice. It's a talented group of writers, artists, and idea-makers who want to inspire our generation to pursue creativity in spite of every obstacle, so that's exactly what we're doing.
Through late-night brainstorm sessions and draft after draft, Mazing is the embodiment of its mission: celebrating young adulthood in all its unsteadiness. Finding inspiration amidst the chaos. Within these pages, we hope you find the motivation you're looking for, to reach, to create, to hang, to roam, and maybe even survive. And we hope what you find here makes your life outside the page so much more. |

OUR STORYDesperate not to fall flat on their faces in their adult lives after college, classmates Kathryn Schuyler and Betsy Freeman were doing everything they could do land that first big kid job. Toying with editorial and publication design work respectively, Betsy hatched an idea for a little collaborative resumé builder - a magazine.
The topic of such a magazine was easy to arrive at: the one thing they couldn’t stop talking about. Why is young adulthood so hard & weird? How are all the major decisions in my life intersecting in my 20s? The name of the magazine, though, was a little harder to decide. After a narrow miss with Hustle magazine (which, after some market research, seemed a little too close for comfort with Hustler), they arrived at the perfectly punniest name: Mazing. They invited dozens of their classmates (read: most of the English & Art department at their tiny college) to contribute art and written pieces. With their help, the first issue of Mazing was born on October 1, 2016. What was supposed to be a one time portfolio piece started to swell. As Betsy and Kathryn entered their crappy first post-college jobs and moved to new cities, Mazing became exactly what it was supposed to be all along: a place to deposit their creative passions. Issue 2 happened, and then, the first of the print babies: Issue 3. Each issue transformed and grew, now drawing in an international pool of contributors, friends of friends, and even a few connections from social media (guess it really works!). Kathryn jokes that it’s still in its “passion project phase,” Mazing has grown far beyond its original framework—and the best part is, it’s still growing. Want to join us? |
